Here at Dolphin Care Uk, we read lot's of articles about Dolphin Deaths from all over the world and sometimes feel helpless about the cruelty and sheer slaughter of these beautiful and necessary creatures in the name of greed! So instead of being part of the 75% of the world's population that just sit by and allow these terrible things to happen... We have developed something that everyone can be involved in after they understand what we would like them to do. No, it won't require donations, just a little of your time to ensure that your children's children can experience these creatures in real life.... not just pictures and text in history books! Extinction is really forever!

It's clear that commitment, passion and drive demonstrates our qualities when speaking up for dolphins. Our work with dolphin conservation continues to make a difference. Please help Dolphin Care Uk to help protect one of our countrie's most majestic marine mammals.

The Dolphin-Safe Tuna Program

In 1990, a program to label tuna cans "Dolphin Safe" (certifying that no dolphins were encircled to catch tuna) began in the USA, reducing dolphin deaths in tuna nets by 97 percent.

Dolphin Care Uk want's to see labels on cans of Tuna in British stores

Tuna-Dolphin connection has led to fisheries practices that devastates the dolphin population. Dolphins are a marker for the tuna. Fishing Boats prowl for dolphins, they see dolphins and they know tuna are there, they then head toward's them. Net's the size of four football pitches are lowered into the water catching the tuna and the dolphins.

Hundereds of dolphins are killed in these nets, see bycatch

With annual catches of more than 3 million tonnes, tuna is the most traded fishing product on the world market. Demand from the main markets is very high with Europe at the top, This commercial interest has led to a concentration of investments, strong competition for canned tuna products, and a globalisation of the production sites. A number of big international operators thus control the capture, the processing and the commercialisation of tuna-based products, often in association with operators in the source countries. Heinz and its associates dominate the world tuna scene, controlling more than 50% of the world's markets.

It is critical that the public make its voice heard, both at the industry and at governmental levels. A dolphin-safe label will only be as good as what the public demands it to be. Especially worrying is the case of the European Union, where no requirements for tuna labelling are mandated by law, and more canned tuna products are consumed than in any other region of the world.
