Being Paralysed should have No barriers
Dolphin Care Uk are determined to help in the community where ever we can.
Many people find it hard to talk to disabled people I for one was one of those people.
Not any longer, please read this story and help me to help Sarah.
Meet Sarah Yeo.
This wonderful young lady contacted Dolphin Care UK and asked me to help her on the 30th of July It goes without saying that I was more than willing to help Sarah.
I said I would help her where ever I could and asked Sarah to send me more details of what she wanted to do.
This talented and bright young lady surprised me when she said she loved dolphins and wanted to help do something to help protect them.
Sarah was injured when she was just eighteen months old, now 22 and (I have her full permission to tell you this) she was under the impression she could not do much to help.
This young lady is faster than I am at typing on a keyboard, Sarah also does websites (Little Plug) there Sarah, If anyone needs a website you can contact Sarah or contact me here at Dolphin Care UK.
This young lady wants to learn more about the marine environment and wildlife, she is also a member of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society. (WDCS)
We are in touch almost daily through emails or telephone conversations, I explained to Sarah how wrong she was when she thought she could do little, and that she could help in many ways.
Not only do I run Dolphin Care UK but I am also a marine mammal medic with British Divers Marine Life Rescue (Bdmlr) I explained a little about Bdmlr to Sarah and told her to join the forum, where she would be in touch with some fantastic people all around the UK.
She would also gain a lot of knowledge by visiting the Bdmlr forum, with the rescues and strandings that happen around our coastal areas.
Dolphin Care UK is also an Offical Supporter of the UN's Year of the Dolphin program and in October there is a meeting of all supporters where they can display items of their organisations work.
Dolphin Care UK are all about By-Catch and how we want to stop the hundreds of dolphin deaths that happen every year around the UK due to mans greed and the Pair Trawlers of the EU.
We are also proud of the fact that we do community work also, which includes giving talks and lectures about By-Catch and how we want to stop these deaths of our dolphins.
We also work with schools and have a special page for schools and the children to ask questions, we always reply.
We are also involved in helping another little girl (Amy) get her book published what she has written, all about a dolphin and his friends the book is called 'Dolphy' you can read about this on Amy's page.
But getting back to Sarah and how we can help her, this has already started and please keep coming back to Sarahs page to find out more.
One of the topics I have raised is for Sarah to learn how to scuba dive, yes scuba dive just because sarah is paralysed does not mean she can do nothing.
That is wrong to assume she can not learn to scuba dive there are special places for people just like sarah to learn how to do this.
I am just waiting for details to come back to me, after emailing the Scuba Trust.
The Scuba Trust is a non-profit charity created to promote scuba diving for all abilities. It was founded in 1996 by Brenda Carey, Leon Golding and Rikki Singh, with the initial aim of acting as a focal point for the organisation of scuba diving holidays abroad for people with disabilities. They have now grown into one of the UK's leading dive organisations and help individuals with disabilities (and their friends) learn to scuba dive, click on the logo for more information.
There should be no boundries when it comes to handicapped people, Dolphin Care UK will be up dating this webpage in the near future. - Please come back again.
If you feel you can help Sarah in anyway with her learning of the Marine Environment and Conservation please email me and I will put you in touch with her.
